Senior Electrical Procurement Engineer

Position Summary

• The Senior Electrical Procurement Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the procurement of electrical materials, equipment, and services for industrial, commercial, or infrastructure projects. This role ensures that all electrical items meet technical specifications, quality standards, budget requirements, and project timelines. The position works closely with engineering, construction, project management, contracts, and supplier teams to secure reliable and cost-effective procurement solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Procurement & Sourcing

• Develop and execute procurement strategies for electrical materials, equipment, and systems (e.g., transformers, switchgear, motors, cables, lighting, LV/MV/HV systems, control systems).
• Identify, evaluate, and prequalify suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare and issue RFQs/RFPs; manage bid evaluations and recommend technically and commercially compliant suppliers.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, warranties, delivery schedules, and terms and conditions.

2. Technical Evaluation

• Review engineering drawings, specifications, BOQs, and material requisitions to determine material requirements.
• Conduct detailed technical bid evaluations (TBE) to ensure compliance with project technical requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to clarify technical scope and resolve discrepancies with vendors.
• Ensure materials and equipment comply with applicable standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, UL, etc.).

3. Supplier Coordination & Management

• Maintain strong relationships with local and international suppliers.
• Conduct supplier capability assessments, factory audits, and technical meetings.
• Monitor vendor performance, delivery progress, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
• Resolve vendor-related issues, including NCRs, delays, and technical deviations.

4. Contract & Documentation Management

• Prepare purchase orders (POs), commercial terms, and procurement documents in accordance with company and project requirements.
• Ensure accurate documentation related to procurement, including datasheets, certifications, inspection reports, and test results.
• Coordinate with logistics teams for shipping, import/export, customs clearance, and delivery.

5. Cost Control & Risk Management

• Conduct cost analyses, benchmarking, and budgeting for electrical procurement scopes.
• Track procurement costs and identify opportunities for value engineering.
• Assess and mitigate supply chain risks, such as long lead items or vendor capacity issues.

6. Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with project managers, EPC contractors, engineering, planning, QC/QA, and site teams to align procurement activities with project milestones.
• Support construction and site teams with technical clarifications, delivery schedules, and material availability.
• Participate in project review meetings and procurement status reporting.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).

Experience

• Typically 7–12+ years of procurement experience in EPC, construction, oil & gas, power generation, utilities, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
• Strong knowledge of electrical equipment, systems, engineering standards, and supplier market landscape.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong technical understanding of LV/MV/HV systems.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor-management skills.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards) and procurement tools.
• Knowledge of supply chain best practices and commercial terms (Incoterms, payment terms, warranties).
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
