The Procurement/Material Civil Engineer is tasked with the strategic sourcing, procurement, and oversight of materials and services necessary for civil engineering projects. This position entails reviewing project specifications and budgets to determine suitable materials, negotiating supplier contracts, and ensuring timely deliveries to uphold project timelines. The engineer works closely with project managers, architects, and construction teams to guarantee that all materials meet quality standards and adhere to regulatory requirements. Furthermore, the role encompasses monitoring market trends and supplier performance to enhance procurement practices, manage expenses, and contribute to the overall success of construction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the procurement process from initial planning to final delivery.
  • Assess and manage supplier performance and compliance.
  • Compile and present procurement reports and forecasts to management.
  • Ensure accurate procurement records, including supplier performance evaluations and contract administration.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to synchronize procurement activities with project schedules and requirements.
  • Select and evaluate suppliers based on quality, cost, and delivery capabilities.
  • Conduct market analysis to discover potential suppliers and emerging trends.
  • Address any issues or discrepancies with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with the procurement department to track material delivery and quality.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

This essential degree equips you with a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, design, and construction methodologies.

  • Certification in Procurement or Supply Chain Management (optional).

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.

Proficiency in Procurement Software:

  • Experience using procurement and supply chain management software applications.

  • Capability to perform cost analysis and generate estimates for materials and services necessary for projects.

Contract Management Skills:

  • Expertise in drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts with suppliers and vendors.

Familiarity with Project Management Tools:

  • Acquainted with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) for monitoring procurement schedules and budgets.

Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance:

  • Awareness of local and national regulations pertaining to construction materials and procurement procedures.

Quality Control Methodologies:

  • Understanding of quality assurance practices to assess material specifications and supplier performance.

Data Analysis and Reporting Skills:

  • Aptitude for analyzing procurement data and creating reports for decision-making and strategic planning.

Technical Drawing Interpretation:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings to determine material requirements.

Supply Chain Optimization Skills:

  • Ability to enhance supply chain processes to minimize costs and improve efficiency in material sourcing.
