Cairo, Egypt United Nations Full time

The UNODC Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) internship is for two (2) months with an opportunity for extension to a maximum of six (6) months, pending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35.5 hours) under the direct supervision of the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Expert, and the overall supervision of the Regional Representative.

**Responsibilities**:

- Contribute to the elaboration of background documents, presentations, briefing notes, summaries, talking points and speeches;
- Assist in the administrative preparation of national and regional technical assistance workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences;
- Conduct basic research on criminal justice related fields;
- Attend and take notes at meetings, as required; and perform other tasks, as necessary.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). (OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION);
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
