**Position Title: Primary Deputy Head Academic**

**Teaching Commitment**: Maximum 40%

The Deputy Headteacher (Academic), under the direction of the Head of Primary, will take a major role in
leading the academic team in developing the curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning,
robust assessment and effective transition to secondary school.

**KEY DUTIES OF THE DEPUTY HEAD (ACADEMIC and ADMINISTRATIVE) ROLE**:
**A. Safeguarding Duties**

- Ensure that the designated member of staff for child protection is made aware and kept fully

informed of any concerns which the senior teacher may have in relation to safeguarding and/or
child protection.
**B. Teaching and Learning**
- Model excellence in all areas of teaching including: planning, differentiation, feedback and

assessment;
- Establish, in conjunction with the Head of Primary, the mentoring and induction programme for

new teachers.
- Be responsible with the Primary Leadership Team for improving the quality of teaching and

learning across the school;
- Promote the school’s approach of High Performance Learning;
- Drive improvements in children’s progress rates throughout the school and promote high levels

of achievement for all;
- Ensure consistent and accurate records including assessment are maintained throughout the

school and statutory and school policies are met;
- Provide leadership, development and management of the teaching and learning of all pupils;
- Model excellence in all areas of teaching including planning, teaching, marking, behaviour and

assessment;
- Provide excellent coaching and mentoring for both new and experienced teachers;
- Develop and monitor a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, which is accessible to all pupils

and working alongside the LS coordinator to do so;
- Support the Head of Primary in the management and organisation of relevant groupings of

children to ensure effective teaching and learning takes place and that children's personal

development and academic needs are met;
- Develop links with parents, other schools, educational institutions and the wider community in

order to enhance teaching, learning and personal development of all pupils.
- Support the Head of Primary in promoting effective teaching and learning practices across the

primary school.

**C. Assessment and Quality Assurance**
- Organise and administer external baseline tests and attitudinal surveys;
- Explain the purpose and nature of baseline assessments to staff, parents and students;
- Liaise with the admissions officer with regard to primary admissions assessments;
- Analyse outcomes of performance tests in relation to baseline tests and prior attainment;
- Present results as appropriate to PLT, staff, parents and students;
- Produce longitudinal data and triangulation of data for analysis ;
- Work with the Head of Primary to ensure that data is used to inform planning and to assess the

effectiveness of outcomes;
- Take a lead role in monitoring and evaluating performance data and standards across the whole

school;
- Analyse assessment data and share this in an accessible way with staff, governors and parents;
- Track pupil progress, highlighting areas of concern, planning interventions and ensuring these

actions have a positive impact on attainment and progress;
- Establish attainment and value-added targets for Phase Leaders and Subject Coordinators;
- Organise the internal assessment and reporting calendar in collaboration with Phase Leaders;
- Be responsible for data transfer between the primary school and secondary school in co
- operation with the Head of Primary;
- Produce reports as requested by Principal and Head of Primary;
- Produce a comprehensive analysis of staff teaching and learning targets and impact targets,

progress towards completion, and support staff where necessary;
- Collate data on staff performance against wider professional expectations.

**D. Curriculum and Administration**
- Construct the primary school timetable, including homework timetables and duty rotas, and to

assist with the construction of the primary school timetable to maximise use of shared facilities
and deployment of staff who work in both schools;
- Produce teacher / room / year group / individual student timetables;
- Create and maintain teaching group lists on the School Information Management System;
- Work with the IT department and external providers to integrate all timetable data into the
- School Information Management System;
- Have a full understanding of the English National and Early Years Curriculum
- Produce a staff deployment and curriculum analysis;
- Ensure the implementation of all learning and teaching policies that relate directly to academic
- areas including marking and feedback;
- Liaise with the Deputy Head Pastoral to arrange cover for absent st
