Medical Billing Manager

**Job Overview**
**Key Responsibilities**
- **Department Leadership and Oversight**:
- Lead, manage, and coordinate the efforts of multiple departments within the billing function, including credentialing, accounts receivable, denials management, and rejection handling.
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure all billing practices are managed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- **Billing and Claims Management**:
- Oversee the end-to-end billing process for mental and behavioral health services, including telehealth, ensuring accurate claims submissions and timely follow-up on claims.
- Collaborate with credentialing teams to ensure providers are properly credentialed and compliant with payer requirements.
- Monitor claim rejections and denials, analyze trends, and implement solutions to reduce future occurrences.
- **Compliance and Best Practices**:
- Ensure all billing activities comply with healthcare industry standards, state and federal regulations, and company policies.
- Establish, document, and maintain billing policies, procedures, and protocols that support compliance and operational efficiency.
- **Accounts Receivable and Collections**:
- Manage accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely collections, follow-up, and resolution of outstanding balances.
- Implement strategies to improve collection rates and decrease aging accounts, ensuring revenue cycle efficiency.
- **Reporting and Analysis**:
- Conduct regular audits of billing processes and records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
- Generate, analyze, and present detailed billing reports for executive management to provide visibility into financial performance, key metrics, and areas for improvement.
- Use data-driven insights to optimize billing workflows and address potential gaps in revenue capture.
- **Denials and Rejections Management**:
- Work with the team to review and appeal denials as appropriate, aiming to maximize reimbursements and minimize loss.
- **Team Training and Development**:
- Provide ongoing training, support, and mentorship to billing department staff to foster a high-performance, knowledgeable team.
- Encourage team development and ensure staff are updated on industry trends, coding changes, and best practices in medical billing.
**Qualifications**
- **Experience**: Minimum 5 years of experience in medical billing management, with at least 2 years in U.S. healthcare. Experience in mental and behavioral health billing or telehealth billing is a plus.
- **Education**: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- **Knowledge**: Strong understanding of U.S. healthcare billing practices, including claims submission, denials management, and compliance regulations.
- **Technical Skills**: Proficiency with medical billing software, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- **Leadership Skills**: Proven ability to lead and manage multiple teams, including department heads and specialists within the billing cycle.
- **Analytical Skills**: Ability to analyze data, conduct audits, and generate reports to provide insights and drive process improvements.
- **Attention to Detail**: Highly organized and meticulous, capable of managing complex billing operations with a high degree of accuracy.
- **Communication**: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with executive management, payers, and internal teams effectively.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience in mental and behavioral health billing.
- Familiarity with telehealth billing practices.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, CMS, and other relevant healthcare regulations.
