Reports to: Senior Director, Pre-Awards

Purpose: The Senior Proposal Officer will provide proposal development, recommendations, and writing services for AUC faculty to assist them in obtaining funding from a diverse range of sponsors; explore and identify new funding opportunities and sponsors that match with faculty research needs by monitoring program offerings, search for donor areas of interest and match them to faculty expertise, using a wide range of funding opportunities databases and other sources. He or She will keep faculty updated of opportunities in their field. The jobholder will enhance investigators' ability to compete for and win awards through training services, particularly those geared towards electronic proposal submission, e.g. through and other sponsor systems. He or She will manage complex proposal projects and coordinate between multiple stakeholders, submission requirements and process

Responsibilities:

Provide proposal development, recommendations, and writing services for AUC faculty members to assistthem in obtaining funding from a diverse range of sponsorsSearch for and alert faculty to funding opportunities by monitoring program offerings, searching for donor areas of interest and matching them to faculty expertise, and using a wide range of databases and other sourcesDevelop a solid understanding of the faculty key areas of expertise and research interestExplore and identify new potential sponsors and new funding opportunities to match them with the specificfaculty areas of interestEnhance the investigator's ability to compete for and win awards by holding training workshops and one-on-one training services, particularly those geared towards large scale or complex proposals and electronicproposal submission, e.g. through and other sponsor systemsLead and manage complex proposals, including coordination between all related or multiple stakeholders (internal and external), proposals requirements, and submission process, e.g. electronic portals and complex online submissionsUnder the supervision of the senior director, work on proposals of diverse scope where analysis of data requires a thorough understanding of complex regulationsManage the internal proposal review and approval process for the assigned proposalsManage several concurrent proposals simultaneously and provide rapid responses in a fast-paced environmentPrepare and review proposal budgets with the assistance of the designated program officer, ensuring that all estimated costs are accurate, realistic and allowable by the sponsor, as well as in line with AUC's financial regulations and accounting systemsEnsure that all proposals comply with sponsor and institutional policiesMonitor progress on proposal documents to assure timeliness and quality of responseAssists the senior director in the review and clearances of all memorandum of understandings (MOU) related to the Academic AreaDevelop boilerplate information for use in a wide variety of proposalsMarket Office of Sponsored Programs proposal development or submission services for principal investigatorsActs as the Senior Director, Pre-awards during his or her absencePerform any other related duties as assignedRequirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in writing-related field or social scienceExperience:A minimum of 12 years of previous experience including a target of five years in grant writing and proposal development, or a similar fieldExperience in developing grant proposals is preferable. Working in an academic environment or sponsored programs office or a fast-paced environment is also a major advantage. Skills:Strong command of the English languageStrong oral and written communication skills are of the highest priorityPersonal Leadership and initiative skillsExcellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to work with groups and organizations, both internal and external to the University. It is particularly important to possess an ability to work with diverse constituenciesFamiliarity with various sponsors' policies and guidelinesPositive attitude, strong work ethics, commitment to the highest standards of customer service and professionalism, and ability to work independently and as a member of a dynamic cross-functional teamPriority Setting and multi-tasking skillsAble to handle a heavy workload This position is open until August 28, 2024 Placement is based on the candidate's experience and skills.
