The Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the value of the product by creating and managing the product backlog. The Product Owner creates user stories for the development team communicates the voice of the customer in the process and is the sole person responsible for backlog grooming.

**Duties and Responsibilities**

Translating product managers’ strategies to tasks for development
- Take initiatives from the product manager, and break them down into stories or actionable chunks of value.
- Drafting epics, stories, and tasks that the development team can execute on.
- Arranging and prioritizing sprints
- Evaluating progress at each stage of development

Product Backlog Management
- Produce backlog items that align with larger business objectives
- Ensure that the backlog stays up-to-date based on the evolving needs of the project and does not become static.
- Prioritize these items based on the product strategy.
- Map out realistic project dependencies.
- Implement the most efficient sequence of development.
- Continuously work on ways to optimize the backlog for the best possible product performance and business value.

Prioritizing Product Needs
- Clearly defines any, and all project constraints.
- Gauges which development areas have fewer constraints.
- Determines which deliverable to put into development at which time.
- Repeats the prioritization process for each iteration of the product.

Development Stage Oversight
- Works with the development team to identify, define, and organize the steps required for the next iterations.
- Meets with teams to refine the development process.
- Identifies any areas with the potential for improvements.
- Supports the product design sprint.

Test Programs
- Run beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples.
- Repeatedly review development completed work, and make sure the product is meeting customer expectations, as well as oversee iterations of the product as needed.
- Understanding of what has been successful in the pilot programs, and through interpreting customer feedback, how to improve the product in future iterations.

Serving as a liaison between product and development
- Translate the product manager’s vision and what each product’s area is designed to do for its users. Keep the development team aware of the how and the why behind all user stories and other tasks the product owner prioritizing.
- Staying accessible to development to answer questions.
- Participate in daily scrum meetings, planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

**Qualifications**
- High-level knowledge of agile software development.
- Experience in software project management.
- Ability to define all user stories.
- Excellent communication skills.
- An understanding of computer science principles.
- Experience with AI/ML projects is a big plus.
- Continuous problem-solving ability
- Experience with functioning within agile teams
