**Nature & Scope**:
The role of the position holder will be to provide strategic direction in all protocol matters relating to the Bank

**Responsibilities**:

- Providing strategic direction and leading the development of the Bank’s strategy in protocol matters, including for its subsidiaries, to ensure that it is managed with a long term perspective;
- Day-to-day management of protocol staff and processes in line with agreed objectives, policies and procedures and the Bank's strategic plans;
- To develop and implement a comprehensive engagement plan to enhance the Bank’s relations with persons/ government departments, embassies etc., key to the Bank’s protocol processes;
- Develop and implement a comprehensive framework and strategy for delivering protocol support for all the Bank’s events and activities.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive, corporate diplomacy strategy for the Bank for proactive engagement with relevant stakeholders to build relationships which support the Bank’s overall strategy and interests;
- Prepare appropriate protocol codes, policies, procedures and guidelines for the Protocol Department and Bank at large and ensure their implementation;
- Work with the Board and Senior Management in facilitating and managing appropriate, diplomatic interaction with various stakeholders as maybe applicable, and to ensure they are kept apprised of relevant information and updates about pertinent developments which may impact the Bank’s corporate diplomacy interests;
- Oversee all processes relating to the issuance of the Bank’s Laissez Passers;
- Lead in the negotiation of, and ensure the proper signing/accession and ratification of all the Bank’s Agreements (treaties) as may be required; and
- Any other duties as may be assigned by Executive Management.

**Requirements**:Qualification and Skill**_
- **
- Master’s degree in International Relations, or Public International Law from a recognized University.
- Not less than 12 years’ experience handling protocol matters at a senior level is essential. Experience in multilateral or international organisation will be an advantage;
- Ability to communicate and function in a culturally diverse and change oriented setting with good knowledge of best practice diplomatic and protocol practices in Africa;
- Ability to interact with senior officials of banks, corporates, multilaterals, diplomatic missions, governments and governments agencies and departments and to present required advice on various diplomatic and protocol related matters to the Bank's senior management and the Board;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and working knowledge of French or vice versa. Knowledge of the Bank's other working languages is an added advantage (Arabic and Portuguese);
- Strong skills in drafting a variety of diplomatic communications and communicating delicate matters with due decorum;
- Thorough understanding of the Bank’s treaties in order to be able to provide advice on them;
- Negotiating skills and capacity to work with other professionals to develop innovative solutions to conflicting interests and positions; and
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including ability to organize and manage human resources to attain goals
- Ability to demonstrate passion and commitment to the socio-economic empowerment of African countries and the ability to support the achievement of Afreximbank’s mandate
