IBM Middleware Engineer

Key responsibilities:

• Administration and Maintenance:
  Install, configure, patch, and manage a suite of IBM middleware products, including but not limited to
  IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS)
  ,
  IBM MQ (Message Queue)
  ,
  IBM Integration Bus (IIB) / App Connect Enterprise (ACE)
  , and potentially
  IBM HTTP Server (IHS)
  or
  IBM DataPower Gateway
  .
• Troubleshooting and Support:
  Provide expert-level support for production and non-production environments. Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to middleware components, performance bottlenecks, and system outages, often under pressure.
• Monitoring and Optimization:
  Implement and maintain robust monitoring solutions for middleware platforms. Proactively identify performance degradation and bottlenecks, and implement tuning and optimization strategies to ensure peak performance and stability.
• Deployment and Release Management:
  Work closely with development and operations teams to automate and streamline application deployments, configuration management, and environment provisioning using CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Security and Compliance:
  Ensure all middleware systems adhere to security best practices, corporate policies, and regulatory compliance standards. Manage SSL/TLS certificates, implement secure configurations, and participate in audit reviews.
• Capacity Planning and Disaster Recovery:
  Participate in capacity planning to scale environments effectively. Develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical middleware infrastructure.
• Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
  Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, operational procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Mentor junior staff and share technical knowledge across the team.

Required skills and experience:

• 5+ years
  of hands-on experience in the administration, configuration, and maintenance of
  IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS)
  and/or
  IBM MQ
  .
• Strong proficiency in scripting languages for automation (e.g.,
  Jython, Shell scripting (Bash/Korn), Python, or PowerShell
  ).
• In-depth knowledge of
  J2EE/Java application deployment, architecture, and troubleshooting
  within a WebSphere environment.
• Experience with
  operating systems administration
  (Linux/Unix preferred) in the context of middleware installation and tuning.
• Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues across the application, middleware, and network layers.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk, AppDynamics, Prometheus) and log analysis techniques.

Bonus skills:

• Experience with
  IBM Integration Bus (IIB) / App Connect Enterprise (ACE)
  or other Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) platforms.
• Knowledge of
  containerization technologies
  (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift) and deploying IBM middleware in a cloud-native environment.
• Experience with
  Cloud platforms
  (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and hybrid cloud integration.
• Working knowledge of
  IBM DataPower Gateway
  or API management solutions.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
