Job Objective

Efficiently and strategically manage the procurement function to ensure the timely and costeffective acquisition of goods and services. This includes developing and implementing

procurement strategies, negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, ensuring

compliance with quality and regulatory standards, and driving continuous improvement in

procurement operations. The objective is to optimize the supply chain, minimize costs, mitigate

risks, and support the company's overall goals and objectives.

Environment

- Internal stakeholders: Executives, senior management, finance department, R&D, manufacturing and operations, quality assurance and regulatory affairs, legal, Engineering and facilities.

- External stakeholders: Suppliers, regulatory authorities, industry associations (EDA, GAFI, Customs, Etc).

Key responsibility

  • Strategic Sourcing: Develop and implement procurement Policies, strategies aligned with the company's goals and objectives. Identify potential suppliers, negotiate contracts, and establish favorable terms and conditions for the procurement of pharmaceutical and Medical products (All Direct and Indirect categories) including but not exclusive to raw materials, packaging materials, Capex, Constructions related, Indirect category and other supplies.
  • Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers. Conduct supplier evaluations and performance reviews to ensure quality, reliability, and on-time delivery. Monitor supplier performance metrics and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Cost Management: Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost reduction initiatives. Analyze market trends, conduct price negotiations, and leverage volume purchasing to achieve optimal pricing and cost efficiency. Continuously monitor and evaluate supplier pricing, terms, and conditions to ensure competitiveness.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and ethical sourcing practices. Identify and mitigate procurement related risks, such as supply chain disruptions, quality issues, and counterfeit products. Implement robust supplier qualification and auditing processes to ensure adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including manufacturing, quality, finance, engineering, facilities, sales, marketing, Regulatory affairs, planning, logistics, HR, operations and legal departments, to align procurement activities with business needs. Participate in cross-functional teams to drive process improvements, product innovation, and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with suppliers, ensuring favorable terms and conditions. Monitor contract performance, resolve disputes, and manage contract renewals and terminations.
  • Lead complex contract negotiations with suppliers, including pricing, terms, and conditions. Monitor contract performance, track deliverables, and enforce compliance. Identify opportunities for contract consolidation and standardization to optimize supplier relationships and achieve cost savings.
  • Procurement Systems and Processes: Implement and optimize procurement systems, tools, and processes to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and enhance data visibility. Leverage technology solutions, such as e-procurement platforms and spend analytics tools, to drive automation and data-driven decision-making.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to the procurement team. Set performance objectives, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide coaching and development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging procurement practices. Seek opportunities to enhance procurement processes, adopt best practices, and leverage technology advancements to drive continuous improvement.
  • Supplier Diversity and Sustainability: Promote supplier diversity initiatives by identifying and engaging with diverse suppliers. Drive sustainability efforts by incorporating environmental and social considerations into the procurement process, such as sourcing from environmentally responsible suppliers and promoting fair labor practices.
  • Global Sourcing and Supply Chain Management: Manage global sourcing strategies and develop a robust global supplier network. Coordinate with international suppliers and navigate international trade regulations. Optimize the global supply chain to ensure reliable and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical products.
  • Inventory Management: Collaborate with inventory planners and demand forecasting teams to optimize inventory levels, minimize stockouts, and reduce carrying costs. Implement inventory control measures, such as just-in-time (JIT) and lean supply chain practices, to achieve cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate supply chain disruptions, such as natural disasters, geopolitical events, and regulatory changes. Identify and qualify alternative suppliers and develop contingency plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure that suppliers meet the company's quality standards and adhere to regulatory requirements. Conduct supplier audits and inspections to assess compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other quality standards.
  • Market Intelligence and Supplier Development: Stay abreast of market trends, emerging technologies, and new product developments in the pharmaceutical industry. Identify opportunities to partner with innovative suppliers and foster supplier development programs to drive product innovation and competitiveness.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as manufacturing,quality, finance, engineering, facilities, sales, marketing, Regulatory affairs, planning, logistics, HR, operations and legal departments, to ensure alignment of procurement activities with organizational objectives. Engage with cross-functional teams to drive supplier collaboration, innovation, and value creation through different official Procurement forums.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the procurement budget, including forecasting and tracking expenditures. Identify opportunities for cost savings and cost avoidance while ensuring the availability of necessary resources to support business operations.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Stay updated on industry best practices, procurement regulations, and advancements in supply chain management. Attend conferences, seminars, and training programs to enhance knowledge and skills.

Academic experience required

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, pharmaceutical science, Engineering, supply chain management, or a related field. A master's degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Professional in Supply Management, Certified Purchasing Manager) are a plus.

Professional Experience Required

  • Extensive experience in procurement, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry. Indepth knowledge of pharmaceutical procurement processes, regulations, and quality requirements.
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience in Procurement.
  • Leadership and team management experience with minimum 5 years in people management.

Computing Skills

  • Advanced MS and SAP.
