The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all. For close to forty years, UN-Habitat has been working in human settlements throughout the world, focusing on building a brighter future for villages, towns, and cities of all sizes. The position is in the Urban Development, ROAS, Cairo, Egypt.
UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) provides technical cooperation and capacity building in line with UN-Habitat’s 7 substantive areas for 18 countries across the Arab region: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. It works closely with the League of Arab States (LAS) on housing and urban development issues.
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Research and Programme Support internship is for three (3) months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, the intern will:
- Support in thematic components and programme activities (Urban planning, design, Gender and capacity building).
- Support the programme team with the drafting and editing of reports, presentations, official communications, press releases etc.
- Conduct desktop research, analysis and translation on relevant materials to the programme.
- Assist the programme team in coordinating with partners and stakeholders.
- Provide logístical support on activities such as the organization and reporting of conferences, meetings, events, trainings etc.
- Provide general support to the programme pipeline projects including the preparation of materials and presentations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the responsible officer.

Education
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Preferred skills:
- Strong interest in working in the UN system and urban development.
- Demonstrable skills in analytical thinking, communication and research.
- Good IT competence, command of main office software programmes, internet communication, and social media skills.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work under pressure within an international setting.
- Ability to perform a variety of administrative tasks.
Preferred areas of studies:
Architecture, Design, Planning, Political and Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Public Administration, Economics or any other related field of study.
