Events and Public Diplomacy Officer

Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
The British Embassy in Cairo has a vacancy for Events and Public Diplomacy Officer, grade B3 (L), to start as soon as possible.
The jobholder will also be responsible for maximising coverage of public diplomacy events by generating digital content, feeding media judgements to the Ambassador and senior colleagues, and providing evaluation and analysis.
**Main duties and responsibilities**:
1. Planning and delivery of Embassy events:
- The jobholder will lead on the strategic planning for and organisation of major events, working closely with the Residence team and other colleagues. This will involve liaising with commercial suppliers, making logístical arrangements, and working with colleagues across the Embassy, including the Ambassador, on event delivery.
- The jobholder will identify key invitees from across the Embassy’s contacts, strategizing to ensure that events target the right people and have the maximum impact.
2. Development and delivery of campaigns and high-quality digital content:
- The jobholder will be expected to play a key role in delivering Embassy soft power objectives, ensuring that events fit with wider campaign aims, and that digital coverage of events and activities maximises their effect. This will involve event promotion and coverage, content-creation, tailoring messages to an Egyptian audience, and optimising to increase reach and effectiveness.
- The jobholder will be expected to produce videos, graphics, and edit photographs to a high standard to help develop the Embassy brand, including on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
3. Building a stakeholder network, internal and external:
- The jobholder will establish contact with key personalities and organisations to amplify UK messaging, including both official contacts and influencers. This will be an essential part of the delivery of the Embassy’s soft power objectives throughout the year.
- The jobholder will be expected to work closely with different Embassy teams and colleagues from the British Council, advising on how events and digital communications can help achieve objectives and making recommendations for activity.
- They will also advise teams in London, regional colleagues in Dubai and senior colleagues in Cairo on public diplomacy events and social media coverage.
4. Additional tasks as required:
- These may include swift and accurate translation, and covering for the Communications Officer (including handling press enquiries, arranging media coverage, press conferences, and interviews, and briefing the Ambassador).
- During a crisis, the jobholder would be expected to provide communications support, including acting as Field Press Officer.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Fluency in English and Arabic both written and spoken. Able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work quickly, accurately and flexibly.
- Excellent understanding of event management, and of organising and delivering activity in a public setting.
- Excellent knowledge of the Egyptian social media landscape and how to maximise reach and influence within it.
- Good understanding of how traditional media works.
- A degree from a reputable university.
- 3 years’ minimum experience in events management or a related field.
