**Purpose of the Role**:

- The person in this role will advise project/product teams by assisting in the gathering and articulation of metadata requirements, planning testing of metadata in systems, and training staff to create and manage metadata in systems or to support products
- Metadata Specialist play a key role in enterprise systems development by supplying the essential metadata specifications and data structures to third party software developers that enable systems to manage content efficiently and consistently
- Partner with content-creating departments to advise, train and support staff members who interact with metadata as a part of the content creation or content management process as well as advise on matters of metadata policy and proper uses of metadata models as well as work closely with IT, vendor partners, and contracted staff to implement metadata models, processes, and systems and be able to exert considerable influence over staff participating in metadata workflows

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Data catalog**:

- Performs cataloging using cataloging standards
- Resolves cataloging and authority problems, including maintenance of bibliographic database records
- Applies classification to all materials cataloged using local classification schemes

**Metadata upkeep and improvement**:

- Maintain and administer the principles and rules of the company’s Application Profile and all metadata technical standards by accepting, rejecting, or correcting metadata records created
- Raise issues to the Metadata Centre Manager, and assist the Metadata Centre Manager in resolving theoretical and practical metadata issues

**Contribute to the strategic plan for metadata**:

- Collaborate with the Metadata Centre Manager to contribute to the strategic plan for metadata
- Assist in the production of policies and governance documents
- Partner with IT (and vendors as necessary) to implement metadata requirements in systems, or to communicate the requirements correctly to third parties
- Ensure that well-modelled metadata is used in content producing departments to enable content efficiency and consistency
- Arrange and participate in testing of systems

**Stakeholder Management**:

- Understand client’s strategic enterprise data needs
- Develop and facilitate client’s business and technical metadata
- Help the client access data in an efficient and case-based manner

**Qualifications and Experience Levels**:

- Minimum 2+ experience in related field
- Bachelor of computer science filed and professional data engineering qualification
