**GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**As Project leader**:

- Lead the delivery of agreed activities on time and in line with donor agreed planning and budget calendar and processes.
- Provide intellectual leadership and build a shared vision for the project, its goals and how it will deliver.
- Oversee the planning and implementation of the project activities.
- Oversee and support the work of other project team members including project partners and consultants.
- Facilitate the delivery of project outputs and contributions towards outcomes and impacts across the project.
- Verify quality of key project deliverables and authorize the release of funding as approved in the project proposal, work plan and budget.
- Optimize financial resources, making decisions that maximize value for money, impact and that drive efficiencies.
- Liaise regularly with FCDO Project Management Unit for guidance and support.
- Coordinate to achieve synergies with other IWMI and CGIAR projects in the MENA region, including coordination with IWMI Country representatives.
- Oversee the project reporting process and manage risks in line with the project risk register.
- Ensure implementation of the project’s communication strategy and gender action plan.
- Support a work environment that promotes a culture of collaboration, learning and effective knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer and interdisciplinary teamwork.

**As NBSW Expert**
- Based on expertise and knowledge of NBSW implementation, contribute to the selection of a single project demonstration site in each project country (Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Occupied Palestinian Territories).
- Through modelling and other analyses evaluate the potential impacts of proposed NBSW interventions in each site on water resources, different water users, stakeholders and community members in each project demonstration site and with allowance climate change.
- Oversee the implementation of on-the-ground NBSW activities in each demonstration project, including participatory processes.
- In collaboration with other project researchers, design and oversee the monitoring and evaluation of NBSW interventions, including impacts on water resources, stakeholders and communities to determine if predicted impacts are achieved.
- Drawing on evidence produced through analysis and learnings in the project demonstrations, provide impact pathways for scaling sustainable NBSW solutions.
- Store data collected from the project demonstration sites in a water management information system supported by IWMI. This information will be available to a broader audience, including different water users and donors.
- Build technical capacity of National Government Agencies and other stakeholders in the practical implementation of NBSW activities.
- Conduct partner workshops, dialogues, and discussions on the NBSW concept and how it could be operationalized through creation of an appropriate enabling environment, including novel financing mechanisms.
- Lead and provide input into project progress reports and project deliverables as required. Consolidate knowledge in various communication products, including guidelines, targeted at different audiences and publish peer-reviewed journal papers.
- Organize focused training workshops in NBSW for planners, engineers, extension workers, young professional groups, and community leaders and facilitate peer‐to‐peer learning opportunities, national and regional knowledge sharing, and co‐learning

**Requirements**:

- PhD degree in water resources management, water, climate, or environmental studies.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, preferably post-doctoral, including working on research and development projects promoting, planning, designing and implementing NBSW and similar interventions.
- Experience of managing complex development projects in conflict prone, fragile environments, ideally in the MENA region.
- Proven experience with good understanding of NBSW principles and practices, including the involvement of communities and other stakeholders in decision-making processes.
- Proven knowledge of relevant computer models, such as InVest, WEAP, SWAT.
- Experience of hydrological and environmental and social monitoring
- Experience of working in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams.
- Experience implimenting capacity building and training programs for diverse participants.
- Excellent analytical, time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize work & achieve targets.
- Attention to detail, precision, and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers and other stakeholders in a multicultural setting, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
- Effective listening skills, excellent verbal, and written communications skills in English; knowledge of Arabic is prefered.
