About the Job

The Project Manager II Will:
The basic function of the Steel Detailer I are to assist the Project Management Team with producing and/ or facilitating production of erection and/ or shop drawings for fabrication and/or reviewing fabricators’ shop drawings for accuracy and content. In addition, the Steel Detailer will read and interpret contract drawings and specifications to generate details, material schedules and takeoffs for photovoltaic structures and/ or racking.

Critical functions include:
Plan dimensions from engineers or customer are reviewed, edited, and approved at all plan milestones during design (e.g., 30%, 60% and 90% design) to ensure constructability and accuracy.
RFI’s are issued for plan, engineering, and material questions and/ or clarifications.
Material Takeoffs and subcontractor/ vendor quotes are reviewed and/ or approved from or by other steel detailers
Task Management software is updated daily (by task) to current deliverable status.
Notes are prepared from any meeting attended for accurate record of project needs. All correspondence is professional and prepared with customers (internal and external), suppliers and engineers in mind.
All required material orders from suppliers chosen by Purchasing Agent or procurement team are reviewed and approved for accuracy.

Your Qualification

Must be familiar with construction techniques and skills related to the M Bar C scope, to ensure that projects are completed per approved plans and specifications.
Must be able to balance priorities from several projects at one time with a clear understanding of the individual project’s time and financial constraints.
Must be able to work with office staff and outside personnel or suppliers, ensuring that they are each aware of the job requirements.
Must also be sufficiently proficient with computer software to utilize drafting, material tracking, material takeoff, word processing and/or similar spreadsheet programs for use in job or project meetings.
Must accurately track and maintain detailed records of all material and plan statuses for the office to utilize as needed.
Must be able to easily communicate with office staff and crews so that work proceeds easily and is well coordinated.
Mathematical - must understand the various mathematical relationships in steel construction and material takeoffs.
Language - ability to converse with clients, suppliers and coworkers in English.
Drawings - understands architectural, engineering, and construction drawings with the ability to read details and accurately takeoff material as well as catch plan errors.
Spatial - able to conceptualize two-dimensional drawings as a three-dimensional object and transmit that vision to others.
Required - Two years as a Steel Detailer or similar role.
Preferred - Five years as a Steel Detailer with experience in U.S. government, Division of the State Architect (CA), or other such jurisdictions, specializing in heavy and light gauge steel construction.

While performing the primary duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to indoor, office conditions however may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
