Senior Transmission Engineer

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Transmission Site Engineer to oversee the on-site implementation and maintenance of our microwave, WiMAX, and SDH transmission infrastructure. The successful candidate will be the primary technical authority on site, managing project execution from start to finish, and ensuring all field activities align with design specifications and company standards.

Key responsibilities

Technical and project leadership

• Site supervision
: Act as the main technical point of contact on-site, supervising all aspects of transmission project execution, including equipment installation, configuration, testing, and commissioning.

Quality assurance
: Perform quality control reviews of all on-site work and installation deliverables to ensure they meet engineering standards and are compliant with technical specifications.

Technical expertise
: Provide expert technical advice and hands-on support for complex issues related to microwave, WiMAX, and SDH systems, ensuring efficient resolution of any challenges that arise during installation or maintenance.

Network integration
: Ensure the seamless integration of new or upgraded transmission links into the existing network, coordinating closely with the network planning and operations teams.

Documentation and reporting
: Prepare comprehensive site reports, completion certificates (PAC/FAC), and maintain accurate records of all site activities, configurations, and technical changes.

Operational duties

Issue resolution
: Proactively identify and resolve technical or logistical problems that occur on-site, escalating complex issues to the technical office when necessary.

On-site testing
: Oversee and execute field tests, such as signal quality assessments, for all new and modified transmission links to verify performance parameters.

Resource management
: Liaise with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of materials and coordinate with subcontractors to maintain project schedules.

Maintenance support
: Provide escalated technical support for field maintenance teams, troubleshooting issues with link outages or poor performance to meet key performance indicator (KPI) and service-level agreement (SLA) targets.

Mentorship and safety

: Guide and mentor junior field engineers and technicians, providing technical training and fostering their professional growth.

: Enforce strict adherence to health and safety regulations on-site, ensuring all personnel and activities comply with company policies and local legislation.

Qualifications

Education and experience

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.

• years of experience in telecommunications, with a focus on field execution for transmission projects.

• Extensive hands-on experience with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of microwave, SDH, and WiMAX technologies.

• Proven experience managing field teams and subcontractors in a site engineering capacity.

Technical skills

• Deep knowledge of microwave transmission planning, link budget calculations, and frequency management.

• Expertise in SDH networking, including protection schemes, synchronization, and multiplexing.

• Familiarity with WiMAX architecture, protocols, and field troubleshooting procedures.

• Proficiency with network management systems (NMS) and test equipment.

• Knowledge of RF and optical testing procedures.
