Role Purpose

The Senior Contracts & Claims Engineer is responsible for managing construction contracts, administering claims, mitigating contractual risks, and safeguarding the company's commercial and legal interests across all projects. The role ensures contractual compliance, supports dispute resolution, and protects project profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Contract Administration

  2. Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts, subcontracts, and consultancy agreements.

  3. Ensure contracts align with company policies, project scope, and applicable laws.
  4. Administer contracts during execution, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.

  5. Monitor obligations, notices, milestones, extensions of time, and variations.

  6. Claims & Dispute Management

  7. Prepare, assess, and evaluate claims (EOT, cost claims, prolongation, disruption).

  8. Review contractor and consultant claims for entitlement, quantum, and substantiation.
  9. Lead claim negotiations to achieve commercially favorable settlements.
  10. Support dispute resolution through mediation, arbitration, or litigation when required.

  11. Coordinate with legal advisors and external claims consultants.

  12. Change & Variation Control

  13. Review and assess variations, VO submissions, and change orders.

  14. Ensure variations are contractually valid and properly priced.

  15. Advise project teams on contractual impact of changes.

  16. Risk & Compliance Management

  17. Identify contractual risks and provide mitigation strategies.

  18. Issue and review contractual notices in a timely manner.
  19. Maintain contract registers, claims logs, and correspondence records.

  20. Ensure compliance with FIDIC or bespoke contract forms.

  21. Commercial & Project Support

  22. Provide contractual advice to project managers, engineers, and site teams.

  23. Participate in project meetings to address contractual and claims matters.
  24. Support cost control, payment certifications, and final account settlement.

  25. Assist in project close-out and claims resolution post-completion.

  26. Reporting & Documentation

  27. Prepare contractual reports, claims status updates, and risk summaries.

  28. Maintain well-organized contract and claims documentation systems.
  29. Support audits and management reviews.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Postgraduate studies in Construction Law or Contract Management are an advantage.

Experience

  • 8–12+ years of experience in contracts and claims within construction or real estate development.
  • Strong hands-on experience with large-scale projects (residential, mixed-use, infrastructure).
  • Proven experience with FIDIC contracts (Red, Yellow, Silver Books).
