About the Role

We're looking for a seasoned and entrepreneurial Head of Engineering to lead dopay's growing engineering function in Egypt and beyond. This is a pivotal role: you'll be responsible for building a local engineering hub in Cairo while managing a distributed team of in-house and outsourced developers across multiple geographies.

You'll report to the CTO and work closely with Product, Operations, and Commercial leadership to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions that serve tens of thousands of workers—and soon, millions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a world-class engineering team based in Egypt
  • Oversee a hybrid team of in-house, contract, and outsourced developers globally
  • Deliver on dopay's product roadmap across payroll, cards, Earned Wage Access, and future fintech products
  • Ensure code quality, security, and regulatory compliance
  • Implement scalable engineering practices, agile workflows, and QA processes
  • Own system performance, infrastructure reliability, and uptime
  • Drive architectural decisions that support scale, speed, and new feature delivery
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align technology with business priorities
Requirements
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ in leadership roles
  • Proven experience building and scaling engineering teams, ideally from scratch
  • Strong background working with distributed or hybrid teams, including external vendors
  • Hands-on experience delivering secure, high-availability platforms
  • Familiarity with or openness to learning our stack (Ruby on Rails is our primary backend framework) is strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Fluent in English and Arabic
  • Experience in fintech, SaaS, or regulated environments is preferred

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with the Egyptian and global fintech landscape and with compliance requirements
  • Experience with payroll, payments, or card infrastructure
