Project Overview

We require a highly experienced Power BI freelancer to develop a sophisticated financial reporting solution that transforms raw accounting data into actionable financial statements and performance analysis dashboards. The core objective is to automate the translation of our Trial Balance (TB) and Chart of Accounts (CoA) extracted from Microsoft Dynamics into standard, auditable financial statements for a 24 month period

Scope of Work & Deliverables

The freelancer will be responsible for end-to-end development, resulting in two primary dashboards:

Dashboard 1: Automated Financial Statements

  • Data Modeling: Create a robust and highly performant data model integrating the Trial Balance ledger and the Chart of Accounts structure (including classification hierarchies).
  • DAX Implementation: Develop complex DAX measures to accurately calculate key financial line items, ensuring automatic classification into the following standard statements:
    • Income Statement (P&L): Revenue, COGS, Gross Profit, Operating Expenses, Net Income.
    • Balance Sheet (B/S): Assets, Liabilities, and Equity.
  • Dynamic Reporting: Implement slicers for dynamic period selection (Month, Quarter, Year, YTD)

Dashboard 2: Financial Performance and Variance Analysis

  • Budget vs. Actual (BvA): Develop a dashboard visualizing monthly and cumulative performance against budgeted figures (budget data provided in CSV/Excel).
  • Key Metrics: Design clear visualizations for Variance Analysis, Year-over-Year (YoY) comparison, and custom KPI tracking.

Documentation & Training

  • Provide detailed documentation of the underlying data model and key DAX formulas used for classification and calculation.
  • Conduct a handover session to explain model maintenance and report usage.

Required Skills and Experience (Mandatory)

  • Senior Power BI Expertise: Proven track record delivering complex data visualization projects.
  • DAX Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in DAX for defining sophisticated financial calculations, time intelligence, and dynamic measure selection.
  • Financial/Accounting Acumen (Critical): Deep understanding of accounting principles and the structure of a Chart of Accounts and Trial Balance. Experience building financial statements in Power BI using an unpivoted ledger.
  • M Query (Data Transformation): Experience with M Query for advanced data cleaning and shaping in the Power Query Editor.
  • Best Practices: Adherence to data governance and modeling best practices (Star Schema).
