Job Description

Position Overview

The Fire & Gas (F&G) Lead is responsible for overseeing all commissioning, testing, integration, and handover activities related to Fire & Gas detection and protection systems on oil & gas facilities. This role ensures compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements. The F&G Lead acts as a key interface between engineering, construction, operations, and HSE teams to ensure the safe, reliable, and timely commissioning of all F&G systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Commissioning Planning & Coordination

• Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules for F&G systems.
• Review engineering deliverables (P&IDs, Cause & Effect matrices, loop drawings, datasheets).
• Coordinate with construction, QA/QC, vendors, and commissioning teams to ensure system readiness.
• Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and F&G mapping reviews when required.

2. System Installation Verification

• Inspect installation and verify conformity with design specifications and international standards.
• Ensure proper calibration, configuration, and installation of detectors (gas, smoke, heat, flame, multi-spectrum).
• Check wiring, junction boxes, panels, and network infrastructure for F&G systems.
• Confirm F&G panels, PLCs, ESD systems, and interfaces are installed and ready for testing.

3. Commissioning & Testing

• Lead the execution of SAT, loop checks, point-to-point testing, and functional tests.
• Execute Cause & Effect (C&E) testing with operations and automation teams.
• Validate system logic, alarm priorities, shutdown sequences, and interlocks.
• Manage integration testing between F&G systems, ESD, DCS, HVAC, FPS/FOAM, deluge and suppression systems.

4. Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all commissioning activities follow site HSE guidelines and safe work practices.
• Verify that detectors, alarms, and suppression systems meet regulatory and project-specific standards (NFPA, IEC, API, etc.).
• Support risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and emergency response plans.

5. Documentation & Handover

• Maintain detailed records of tests, calibration sheets, redline drawings, and punch lists.
• Raise and close punch items related to F&G systems.
• Prepare commissioning dossiers and ensure smooth handover to operations/maintenance teams.
• Provide training to client/operations personnel on F&G system functionality.

6. Vendor & Stakeholder Management

• Coordinate with OEM vendors for technical support, troubleshooting, and system tuning.
• Communicate daily progress to Commissioning Manager and project leadership.
• Assist in resolving technical queries (TQ), site instructions, and change management.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics Engineering, or related field.

Experience

• 7–15 years of experience in oil & gas commissioning, with strong expertise in Fire & Gas systems.
• Experience with major EPC projects (onshore/offshore, LNG, petrochemical).
• Hands-on experience with F&G brands such as Honeywell, Siemens, Emerson, Det-Tronics, Tyco, etc.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of F&G detection technologies (IR/UV flame detectors, catalytic, IR gas detectors, smoke/heat detectors).
• Proficient in interpreting Cause & Effect charts, logic diagrams, and control narratives.
• Experience with ESD/PSD systems, PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and SIL-rated systems.
• Familiarity with NFPA, IEC 61511, API RP 14C, and other international standards.
