Job Summary

Production Sourcing & Vendor Management Specialist is responsible for identifying, developing, managing, and upgrading SAL's external production ecosystem, including craftsmen workshops, small factories, and specialized suppliers.

This role also plays a strategic role in evaluating and integrating selected production processes in-house, through the sourcing of machinery, equipment, and technical resources (e.g. powder coating, finishing, machining).

The role requires a strong technical understanding of production processes, high resourcefulness, and the ability to operate effectively in unstructured, craft-based manufacturing environments, while upholding SAL's quality and precision standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supplier Sourcing & Development
  • Identify and onboard new suppliers across formal factories and informal / craft-based workshops.
  • Source rare or specialized crafts through field research, referrals, and ecosystem mapping.
  • Build long-term supplier relationships based on trust, quality, and reliability.
  • Develop suppliers through feedback, pilot runs, and process improvements.
  • Technical Evaluation & Quality Alignment
  • Evaluate suppliers' production capabilities, tolerances, finishes, and consistency.
  • Translate SAL's design and quality requirements into clear production instructions.
  • Identify production risks, variability points, and quality failure modes.
  • Make-or-Buy & In-House Integration
  • Assess which production processes should remain external vs be brought in-house.
  • Source and evaluate machinery and equipment for internal production.
  • Support planning for utilities, space, manpower, and maintenance needs.
  • Supplier Management & Negotiation
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, MOQs, and quality expectations.
  • Manage underperforming suppliers through corrective action or replacement.
  • Ensure ethical, fair, and respectful dealings with craftsmen and workshops.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Design, Production, Quality Control, and Inventory teams.
  • Support production planning with realistic supplier capabilities and timelines.

Required Experience & Profile

  • Proven experience in manufacturing, production sourcing, or supplier development.
  • Strong technical understanding of at least one production domain (metal, finishing, coating, machining, glass, wood, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience sourcing suppliers beyond large, structured factories.
  • Comfortable with field work, site visits, and hands-on problem-solving.
