Nature of the consultancy:  National Consultant for WakaWell Content Mapping,

The Interntional Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Arab Republic of Egypt is recruiting a consultant to gather verified information on migration procedures relevant to young people in local contexts prior to their departure. The consultant will prepare answers to frequently asked questions on how to prepare for a safe, regular migration journey and will identify local partners, initiatives and volunteering opportunities that support informed decisions about migration. The consultant should take the existing online country pages as a base to create the content and adapt it to meet the specific needs of Egyptian youth who are interesting in migrating. 

Project Context and Scope: 

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands launched the Cooperation on Migration and Partnerships for Sustainable Solutions initiative (COMPASS) at the beginning of 2021. 

COMPASS is a global initiative, in partnership with 14 countries designed to protect people on the move, combat human trafficking and smuggling, and support dignified return while promoting sustainable reintegration. The initiative is centered on a whole-of-society approach which, in addition to assisting individuals, will work across all levels – households, communities, and the wider communities.

The digital platform  was redesigned in English and French by IOM in 2024 under COMPASS as a platform to help young people in Africa and the Middle East make safe and regular migration decisions based on their local context and empowering volunteers to promote safe migration.

In addition to general information related to migration on the Learn page, WakaWell also features specific departure and destination pages for different countries. A country page will be created on WakaWell for Egypt.

IOM is looking for an experienced consultant to gather verified information about migration and related issues to populate the departure and destination country pages on WakaWell and write short summaries on topics that help young people make informed decisions about migration. 

Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing: 

The successful candidate will work under the overall supervision of the Counter-Trafficking Programme Coordinator and under the direct supervision of the COMPASS Project Officer, and in close coordination with the COMPASS communications and awareness raising team (based in Daker, Senegal).
