Scope of the Role

The
Senior Structural Engineer
is responsible for leading structural design reviews, technical coordination, and ensuring proper execution of all structural works on site. The role bridges the gap between the technical office and site operations, ensuring that all structural elements meet specifications, codes, quality standards, and project requirements.

2. Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Technical Office Responsibilities

• Review, validate, and approve structural design drawings, calculations, and technical documents.
• Prepare and review structural shop drawings, coordination drawings, and bar bending schedules (BBS).
• Perform structural analysis and load calculations using engineering design software.
• Review and approve material submittals, method statements, and RFIs.
• Coordinate with architectural, MEP, and other engineering disciplines to resolve design conflicts.
• Provide engineering solutions and technical support to site teams.
• Participate in value engineering studies and propose cost-effective structural alternatives.
• Ensure all technical documentation is compliant with project standards, codes, and QA/QC procedures.

Site Responsibilities

• Supervise and monitor on-site structural works including foundations, steel structures, concrete works, slabs, and structural elements.
• Ensure execution aligns with approved drawings, specifications, and international structural codes.
• Inspect reinforcement, formwork, scaffolding, and concreting activities.
• Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to resolve structural issues.
• Verify quantities, review BOQs, and validate contractor invoices.
• Prepare daily/weekly progress reports and attend site coordination meetings.
• Ensure full compliance with safety standards and construction management procedures.

3. Job Competences

• Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles and international codes (ACI, BS, Eurocode).
• Excellent command of structural software: ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, STAAD, AutoCAD, Revit.
• Strong analytical skills and high attention to technical detail.
• Excellent communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
• Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Leadership skills and ability to supervise junior engineers and site teams.

4. Professional Qualification & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum of 15 years of professional experience
  in structural engineering within large-scale construction projects.
• Strong background in both
  technical office and on-site structural supervision
  .
• Demonstrated experience in residential, commercial, high-rise, or mixed-use projects.
• Solid understanding of structural design codes, construction practices, and quality standards.
• Professional certifications (PMP, PE, SE) are preferred but not mandatory.
