Job Purpose:

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies to ensure the timely, cost-effective, and high-quality supply of goods for the hypermarket. The role involves vendor management, price negotiation, demand forecasting, and inventory control to maintain optimal stock levels while maximizing profitability and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Procurement & Sourcing

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the purchasing strategy for all product categories (FMCG, perishables, non-food items, electronics, etc.).
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers, distributors, and manufacturers to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
  • Negotiate contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules to secure favorable deals.
  • Conduct market research to track pricing trends, new products, and competitive offers.

2. Inventory & Stock Management

  • Coordinate with category managers and warehouse teams to forecast demand and maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Monitor stock turnover rates to reduce overstocking, minimize waste, and prevent stockouts.
  • Implement inventory control systems and periodic audits to ensure data accuracy.

3. Supplier Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure consistent supply and resolve any issues promptly.
  • Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, timeliness, and compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Conduct regular supplier meetings and annual performance reviews.

4. Cost Control & Budgeting

  • Develop annual purchasing budgets and ensure adherence to cost targets.
  • Analyze cost structures and identify opportunities for savings without compromising product quality.
  • Approve purchase orders and monitor expenditures in line with budgetary constraints.

5. Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure that all procurement activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, and legal regulations.
  • Work closely with the Quality Control team to verify that products meet required standards.

6. Team Leadership & Reporting

  • Lead and mentor the purchasing team to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Prepare periodic reports on purchasing performance, supplier performance, and market trends.
  • Collaborate with finance, operations, and merchandising departments to support overall business goals.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5–8 years of experience in procurement or purchasing within retail, supermarket, or hypermarket operations
  • Proven track record in vendor negotiations and category management
  • Knowledge of local and international sourcing practices
