Maintenance Manager (Ice Cream Industry) – Job Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities within an ice cream manufacturing facility to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of production equipment and utilities. This role manages a team of maintenance technicians and works closely with production, quality, and refrigeration teams to support continuous operations in a cold and food-grade environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise daily maintenance operations across the ice cream production plant.
  • Maintain and repair ice cream processing equipment such as pasteurizers, homogenizers, mix tanks, aging tanks, continuous freezers, hardening tunnels, fillers, and packaging machinery.
  • Oversee maintenance and safe operation of ammonia refrigeration systems, blast freezers, cold storage rooms, compressors, boilers, and utility systems.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor preventive and predictive maintenance programs to reduce downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and refrigeration issues.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, ISO, OSHA, and food-safety requirements.
  • Manage maintenance staff scheduling, training, performance, and safety practices.
  • Coordinate maintenance planning with production to meet daily and seasonal demand.
  • Manage spare-parts inventory, vendors, service contracts, and maintenance budgets.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration logs, service reports, and audit documentation.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, energy efficiency, and sanitation standards.
