Level 3 : the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people _either _frequently (e.g.
once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
**ROLE PURPOSE**:
As a member of the Programme Development and Quality team, the MEAL assistant provides hands-on support and leads specific MEAL activities.
This includes supporting the design of project M&E, Accountability, and Learning Plans, supporting evaluation studies, implementing project monitoring tools, tracking project outputs and results, and contributing to SCI annual monitoring and reporting. The position also supports effective accountability systems, including beneficiary complaints and response systems, and will contribute to project and organizational learning processes.
In line with SCI Egypt’s MEAL approaches, the MEAL Assistant is responsible for ensuring all MEAL processes are gender-sensitive and are participatory, including capturing the voice of children. The role includes providing direct, hands-on support for project and program MEAL activities. The MEAL Assistant is expected to collaborate with MEAL team members and program and project staff.
The position is Cairo-based and may include regular travel to Save the Children Egypt’s program locations across Egypt.

**KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY**:
- Collect the relevant data as indicated by projects’ MEAL plans to measure progress against indicators, expand contextual knowledge of the organization, build positive relationships and trust with people of concern and promote programmatic learning,
- Conduct ad hoc or regular assessment, monitoring, post-monitoring, and evaluation data collection as per plan/scope of work of all projects' activities present in the respective area,
- Lead field testing and piloting in the field of tools and provide feedback and inputs to the MEAL officer after the piloting phase,
- Contribute to the translation of necessary documents such as data collection tools and databases,
- Keep track of project activity implementation and progress against output indicators reported by project teams,
- Ensure quality data collection from the field towards achieving Save the Children's breakthroughs,
- Contribute to quantitative and qualitative data analysis,
- Assist in mainstreaming accountability in all activities,
- Responsible for the operations of reporting and feedback mechanisms and receiving regular feedback from children and other stakeholders,
- Delivering any additional responsibility assigned by the MEAL Officer.

- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in social studies or development-related fields; postgraduate degree is an asset.
**EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS**:
**Essential**:
- 2-3 years of experience working in the Monitoring and Evaluation field.
- Experience in data management and ensuring quality data collection
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills;
- Comfortable with high levels of ambiguity and able to take decisions independently in a fluid context;
- Fluency in Arabic (spoken and written) and well-working knowledge of English is a must;
- Well-working knowledge of excel is a must;
- Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding;
- Experience with vulnerable/marginalized communities desired
