**OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME**:
In collaboration with Member States, international organizations, NGOs, and other WHO programmes, coordinate and evaluate the Region's need for the developmentof nutrition. 1) to assist in improving the status and reducing all priority forms of malnutrition; 2) to assist in strengthening the planning and management capacities of national nutrition programmes of Member States; 3) to assist in the development of national capacity for nutrition programme implementation; 4) to support Member States in the development, adaptation, and use of technologies and approaches aimed at the promotion of proper nutrition and the protection from malnutrition and its consequences.

**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES**:

- Strategically engage with the countries' Nutrition Clusters or equivalent coordination mechanism, working closely with government, UNICEF, WFP, FAO, UNHCR, NGOs, and other partners to develop strategies and implement coordinated/multi-sectoral responses.
- Support the development of a strategic plan to strengthen the capacity building of health professionals and key partners involved in the nutrition response to ensure quality program implementation, including facilitating the development or adaptation of training and guidance on materials as needed.
- Liaise with Food Security Cluster/Taskforce to ensure that assessments of nutrition and food security responses are aligned and well-coordinated with Health and WASH clusters.
- Promote nutrition assessments in collaboration with government partners, UN agencies, NGOs, and other nutrition actors and identify joint assessment opportunities when applicable in coordination with WHO's Health Information and Surveillance teams.
- Provide professional inputs to funding proposals to support nutrition interventions (CERF, flash appeals,etc.).Advise on the planning, formulation,implementation, monitoring and evaluation of nutrition programmes and activities, in compliance with WHO's overall strategy and guidelines, to support a coordinated and timely response.
- Provide technical support to monitor the implementation of specific activities related to nutrition to improve data collection and reporting at all levels.
- Ensure the nutrition programme pursues equitable access to emergency assistance particularly for affected and vulnerable populations across all aspects of the incident nutrition programme including supplementation and food fortification with essential micronutrients,screening of malnourished children and treatment of severe cases at health facilities.
- Develop emergency preparedness plans in nutrition and food security to promote breastfeeding, respond effectively and protect the nutritional status of the population, particularlythe most vulnerable, in any emergency situation.
- Participate in and contribute to international networks to discuss nutrition information, including managing emergencies, and develop SMART surveys and other nutrition assessment tools.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:
**Essential**: An advanced university degree (Master's Degree) in Nutrition or Public health nutrition.
**Desirable**: PhD degree or Master's degree in Nutrition epidemiology.

**Experience**:
**Essential**: At least seven years experience, with international exposure, in planning, implementing, monitoring and supervision of Emergency Nutrition programmes including SAM, surveillance or other relevant programme activities.
**Desirable**: Previous work experience in countries with emergencies in EMR.

**Skills**:

- Proven competence in Nutrition in Emergencies.
- Good knowledge of nutrition programmes.
- Excellent knowledge and demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
- Ability to motivate and guide the development of capacity at the national level.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships as part of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of personal conduct.
