In the past years, ROAS has been expanding its work on the land to protect the housing, land, and property rights of vulnerable groups, including women, displaced people, and migrants. People living in fragile contexts encounter multiple obstacles in enjoying their land and housing rights: practical, legal, political, economic, and cultural. Enchaining access to land and tenure security for vulnerable groups, including women, is crucial for poverty reduction, as well as for triggering broader social and economic development, and for the full realization of human rights, peace, and stability. The internship assignment is to support the implementation of the UN-Habitat land-related projects in Arab states and conflict-affected countries. The intern will be under the direct supervision of the UN-Habitat, Cairo, Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS), Land Specialist.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Cairo, Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) internship is for six (6) months.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

**Responsibilities**:
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the supervision of the Land Specialist, the intern will:

- Support in the management of land-related and urbanization-related projects
- Contribute to reporting and data archiving.
- Support in data analysis and preparation of maps.
- Support in illustration of information (into diagrams, maps, etc.) whenever needed.
- Contribute to translation between English and Arabic, whenever needed.
- Work on events preparation and deliverables tasks, whenever needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Education
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies:
Urban Development, Geography, Geographical Information Systems, Remote Sensing, or a related field.

Work Experience

Experience in land-related issues in the Arab states (such as land governance, women and land, climate and land, etc.) is required.

Technical skills in geographical information systems, remote sensing, data analysis, and illustration of information or related fields are desirable.
