Outside Machinist Lead

Amentum is actively seeking Outside Machinist Lead for International Fleet Support under the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) PMS 326 Follow-On Technical Support (FOTS) contract. **The work location will be at the Egyptian Naval Base in the port of Alexandria, Egypt. **This position includes a competitive benefits package.

**Essential responsibilities and daily duties include**:

- Perform maintenance and repair on a variety of shipboard mechanical systems, including propulsion, hydraulic, seawater, and auxiliary systems.
- Conduct precision alignment of shafts, pumps, and other rotating machinery, ensuring optimal performance, and minimizing vibration or wear.
- Conduct routine inspections of mechanical systems to ensure they are functioning correctly, using diagnostic tools, and testing procedures to verify system performance.
- Participate in major overhauls or shipyard availabilities, working to dismantle, repair, and reassemble shipboard systems as part of the ship’s regular maintenance cycle.
- Perform maintenance, alignment, and troubleshooting on propulsion machinery such as main engines, reduction gears, and clutches.
- Participate as a member of the Amentum Ship Repair Team (SRT) in close coordination with the Industrial Manager.
- Provides timely and comprehensive inputs for the monthly status report.

**Minimum Requirements**
- High School diploma or GED.
- 3 years of experience working as an outside machinist or mechanic in shipyards, naval vessels, or industrial settings.
- Working experience with propulsion shafts, propellers, rudders, and thrust bearings.
- Working experience with the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems onboard naval surface ships.
- Working experience working with various pumps (e.g., centrifugal, gear, reciprocating) used for water, fuel, and hydraulic systems aboard naval ships.
- Experience with the operation, repair, and maintenance of hydraulic power units, actuators, and steering gear systems on naval ships.
- Working expertise in the use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators, calipers) to ensure proper fit and alignment of mechanical components.
- Working knowledge of shaft alignment techniques, including the use of laser alignment tools to ensure that propulsion shafts, pumps, and other rotating equipment are properly aligned.
- Working experience with rigging procedures for the safe movement of heavy machinery components, such as engines, shafts, and pumps, during installation or repair.
- Familiarity with the operation and repair of auxiliary systems, such as winches, cranes, capstans, and pneumatic systems.
- Understanding of seawater systems, including pumps, coolers, and heat exchangers used for cooling engines and machinery.
- Expertise in the use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators, calipers) to ensure proper fit and alignment of mechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams) to understand ship systems and plan maintenance or repairs.
- Ability to perform vibration analysis and other diagnostic tests to identify and correct misalignment or imbalance in rotating machinery.
- Ability to disassemble, repair, and reassemble complex machinery, ensuring all components are aligned and functioning correctly.
- Ability to participate as a member of the Amentum Ship Repair Team (SRT) in close coordination with the Industrial Manager.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to obtain a Country Clearance and Base Pass authorization.
- Possess a current passport at least two years before expiration after arrival in Egypt.
- Ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Familiarity with naval weapons handling systems, such as elevators, cranes, and ammunition hoists, and their associated mechanical components.
- Familiarity with US Navy surface combatants, auxiliary ships, or similar vessels.
- Experience working in an Arab country for long periods.
