**MANDATE OF THE DEPARTMENT**:
The UNAIDS Egypt Country Office provides leadership and coordinates the expanded UN system response in Egypt. Using an

equity and equality lens as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UNAIDS Egypt Country Office scales up HIV

services focused on key populations and locations most at risk. The UNAIDS Egypt Country Office promotes effective use of

strategic information to better understand and track the epidemic and its trends, and to measure progress and sustainable impact

of the response in the country. It supports efforts to strengthen the capacities of communities and their meaningful engagement in

health, social protection, and human rights mechanisms, and provides support and technical guidance as necessary to national

partners and policymakers.

**Main tasks and Responsibilities of the Position**:
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the UNAIDS Country Director the Programme Officer contributes to UNAIDS'

objectives in the office, coordinating specialist expertise and supporting the overall coordination of the UNAIDS response in the

functional areas described below.

He / she has the following key responsibilities:
Support to evidence generation, programme planning and implementation;
Facilitates and supports the generation and use of knowledge products of the SRH project to inform strategic and innovative

solutions and to guide policy development for the HIV/AIDS response in Egypt and the MENA region;
Provides support for programme design, implementation and monitoring for priority areas of the global AIDS Strategy and

facilitates the development of national and subnational roadmaps for implementing the Global AIDS Strategy;

collection, analysis and reporting;
Supports the development and implementation of national prevention plans and strategies with a focus on community-led

responses, key populations and young people (including adolescents, young women and girls);
Supports the UNAIDS Country Office in its work in HIV integration into broader systems for health and development including

universal healthcare and social protection through coordination of technical expertise from across UNAIDS;
Coordinates technical support for evidence-informed, rights-based, and gender transformative national strategic plans;
Assists in the development and implementation of technical support plans tailored to specific country needs;

for and implementation of the Global Funds to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria support;
Provides support to the UNAIDS Country Director and contributes to key practices areas and their implementation in the country

with a focus on strategic information, communities, gender equality and knowledge management;
Assist in efficient functioning of the UN theme groups and the UN joint team on HIV, including the development and

implementation of the UN integrated plan and UBRAF.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

**Education**:
Essential: Advanced university degree at the Masters level or equivalent in Public Health, Medicine, Economics, Social or Political

equivalent.

Desirable: Qualification or training in Programme/project Management.
