Purpose: The Steel Design Lead is responsible for leading the structural design of steel structures from concept through to issue of design packages. The role ensures that designs are safe, code-compliant, and economical to fabricate and erect, and provides technical direction to the design team while coordinating closely with detailing, workshop, and site teams.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead the structural design of steel structures, including buildings, industrial structures, and supporting structures for water and wastewater facilities.
• Prepare, review, and approve design calculations, analysis models, and design reports.
• Develop and review design drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Provide technical guidance, review, and mentoring to design engineers and the detailing team.
• Review client requirements, tender documents, and project specifications, and raise clarifications or RFIs.
• Coordinate with detailing, workshop, and site teams to resolve design queries and ensure constructability.
• Check that designs and shop drawings comply with project specifications, codes, and standards.
• Support value engineering to optimize steel tonnage, connections, and fabrication cost.
• Manage design schedules, deliverables, and revision control to meet project deadlines.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree is a plus).
• Minimum 8 years of experience in structural steel design, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of Tekla and AutoCAD.
• Strong knowledge of steel connections, welding and bolting design, and fabrication and erection processes.
• Excellent leadership skills.
• Strong communication skills.
