**Air conditioning engineers** install, repair and maintain air control systems that regulate temperature and air quality in offices, schools, hospitals, shopping centers and other buildings.

Air conditioning engineers are mechanical engineers who specialize in designing and creating HVAC systems to heat and cool interior areas, manage humidity and maintain good air quality. Air conditioning engineers develop climate control tools and systems for various environments and purposes. Air conditioning engineers have to consider the type of structure they're designing for, what kind of temperature control they need and the amount of power output necessary for each project. They use their understanding of thermodynamics and electricity to create mechanical designs and develop prototypes.

**Air conditioning engineers requirements**:

- working on different types of air conditioning systems such as VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume), VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow), multi-deck and split systems
- visiting and surveying the premises where an air conditioning system is to be installed
- producing an estimate for the cost of constructing and installing the system
- ordering and buying in materials - copper, plastic and steel
- Organising the craft workers and supervising them
- diagnosing and fixing faults if equipment does not work properly
- when installation is complete, carrying out quality inspection and tests
- doing regular service checks of the systems.

**Air conditioning engineers responsibilities**:

- Analyzing the building’s structure to ensure that it is capable of supporting the weight of HVAC equipment.
- Creating and updating maintenance schedules for all equipment, including regular cleaning of coils, filters, and evaporator fins.
- Consulting with clients to determine their needs and expectations regarding HVAC systems.
- Inspecting the physical condition of an air conditioning system to determine if repairs or replacements are needed.
- Installing new air conditioning equipment such as central air conditioners, mini-split systems, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, and geothermal systems.
- Performing routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems and equipment such as furnaces, boilers, cooling towers, humidifiers, evaporative coolers, and air purifiers.
- Selecting and installing new equipment as needed, including thermostats, humidifiers, and air filters.
- Studying blueprints or drawings of new buildings to determine where air conditioning units should be located.
- Designing and installing new HVAC systems as part of construction projects or when replacement is required by old equipment that is no longer functional.
