OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The Violence and Injury Prevention Programme aims to operationalize related global initiatives, develop regional guidance and support Member States with evidence based multisectoral policies and action plans to prevent and reduce mortality, morbidity and disability due to violence and injuries with a focus on unintentional injuries (road traffic injuries, drowning and falls among others) and interpersonal violence. The goal is to ensure that appropriate and timely technical support and guidance is provided for developing, strengthening, implementing and evaluating national strategies, plans and programmes for violence and injury prevention. This also entails assistance in building capacities at all levels including surveillance, evidence-based practices and evaluation. Establishing and strengthening regional networks to share best practices and promoting concerted actions across sectors and countries; as well as monitoring and reporting the regional magnitude andtrends of violence and injuries; and resource mobilization are also important mandates of the Violence and Injury Prevention Programme.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

**Theincumbent will perform the following duties**: Provide timely and sustainable technical guidance on injury prevention to EMR countries while ensuring close linkages with ongoing and related programmes. Strengthen health system actions and programming within an overall multisectoral approach fordata system strengthening, operational research and monitoring and evaluation.Manage programme activities related to building capacities on different areas of injury prevention at the regional and national levels.Coordinate and monitor the implementation of multisectoral action and planning for injury prevention.Manage related data sets and provide coordination in the areas of regional injury surveillance, epidemiology, data collection, analysis and dissemination efforts.Provide technical input in planning the development and evaluation of training and teaching programmes at the regional level and at the country level for building national capacities.Provide technical input to the planning and implementation of injury prevention components of other WHO programmes.Develop advocacy tools to promote an overall multisectoral approach for addressing injuries.Establish and maintain partnerships within WHO and with other UN and non-UN partners atthe global and regional levels for coordinated and effective work in injury prevention. Enhance the exchange of experiences and best practices as well as overseeing regular update of regional website and relevant data platforms.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education

**Essential**: University Degree in Medicine, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related field

**Desirable**: Postgraduate degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or related field.

Experience

**Essential**: At least 5 years of relevant experience with proven international exposure in the area of injury prevention.

**Desirable**: Regional experience working with WHO or a UN agency in a relevant field including interacting with national governments on injury prevention.

**Skills**:Demonstrated knowledge of different aspects of injury prevention in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.Knowledge and understanding of public health approaches and the critical role of WHO and health in injury prevention. Ability to coordinate, planand implement projects as well as effectively monitor and analyze data andpresent results.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build, sustain partnerships across a wider spectrum of partners and Member states.Ability to work independently and deliver high quality results on time.
