**_ Objective:_**

The objective of the consultancy is to generate evidence of the need for a systems approach to improving nutrition through the health, food, education, social protection, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Systems, and to improve community awareness of optimum nutrition and health behaviours.

The overall objective will be achieved through the following sub-objectives:

- Prepare informational brochures for the First 1000 Days and beyond tailored for the Egyptian population
- Prepare and finalise manuscripts on dietary diversity for submission to international peer-reviewed journals
- Prepare a proposal for a trial of the effectiveness of an innovative Infant and Young Child Feeding Tool, to improve diets
- Support development of Egyptian Model of Primary Health Care, including update of First 1000 Days and beyond package and guidelines

**_Methodology:_**

The consultant will work closely with the UNICEF manager and MOHP officials at the local and central level to finalise the deliverables, through the following actions:

- Using the report “Drivers of Dietary Diversity and Malnutrition trends among Egyptian Children” which will be provided to the consultant, prepare two manuscripts for submission and publication in international, peer-reviewed scientific journals with high impact factor.
- Prepare a full proposal for a field trial of the effectiveness of an innovative Infant and Young Child Feeding tool to improve dietary diversity of children and mothers, for submission to the relevant scientific research ethics committee. The consultant will adapt the tool “Job aid: Food intake - 6 up to 24 months” to the Egyptian context.
- Using UNICEF-MOHP and other WHO materials, develop a series of informational brochures on optimal nutrition and health practices for mothers and children, spanning the First 1000 Days and beyond.
- Working from UNICEF and WHO guidance documents and the National Food and Nutrition Strategy, and other relevant national strategies, plans and policies, provide inputs into Egyptian Model of Primary Health Care, including update of 1000 Days and beyond package and guidelines.

The process should be participatory, bringing together multiple stakeholders from MOHP, UN agencies, and academia, to share knowledge and insights, either online or face-to-face. The consultant will consult with UNICEF CSED staff and field coordinators as necessary.

**_Conditions of work:_**

Under the supervision of the managers (UNICEF) and in close collaboration with MoHP, the consultant is required to implement all the activities agreed and submit all deliverables on time and with quality. The managers are responsible for ensuring that the entire process adheres to the organizational quality and ethical standards. The managers ensure that the consultant has access to all necessary documents.

This assignment is a full-time remote consultancy. If the consultant is not based in Caiiro, travel to Cairo from governorate will be agreed upon with manager and compensated as per the agreed upon rate.

Payments will be processed upon submitting the agreed deliverables according to the payment schedule above.
