Low Voltage Switchboard – Electrical Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to design and develop low voltage switchboards and MCCs with a strong focus on protection, controls, and compliance with international standards. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with LV assemblies, precise documentation skills, and the ability to work closely with production, testing, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Engineering

  • Develop detailed electrical schematics, control diagrams, and protection logic for LV switchboards and MCCs.
  • Prepare SLDs, wiring diagrams, and interconnection layouts using AutoCAD Electrical / EPLAN.
  • Design control and protection circuits for incomers, feeders, bus-couplers, and special applications.
  • Select and size LV components (breakers, contactors, relays, CTs, busbars, etc.) based on load, fault levels, and application requirements.
  • Define control logic for manual, automatic, interlocked, and remote operations.

2. Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure designs comply with IEC 61439, IEC 60947, and relevant international and local standards.
  • Align designs with client specifications and authority/utility requirements.
  • Support type testing, routine testing, and certification activities for LV assemblies.

3. Protection & Control

  • Configure protection devices and relays for overload, short-circuit, earth fault, and other protection functions.
  • Support or prepare protection coordination and discrimination studies.
  • Develop control philosophies for ATS, load shedding, motor control, and synchronization where applicable.

4. Documentation & BOM

  • Prepare accurate Bills of Materials (BOM), datasheets, terminal schedules, and wiring lists.
  • Coordinate with procurement and production teams to ensure correct material selection and availability.
  • Issue technical submittals and as-built documentation for consultant and client approvals.

5. Cross-Functional Support

  • Work closely with production, mechanical, testing, and project teams to ensure design feasibility and proper implementation.
  • Provide technical support during installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist QA/QC and after-sales teams with technical clarifications and design-related NCRs.

6. Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain standard design templates and libraries.
  • Recommend design optimizations to improve reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Contribute to internal technical guidelines and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Power Engineering.
  • 2–5 years of experience in LV switchboard, MCC, or control panel design (mandatory).
  • Strong command of AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN.
  • Solid knowledge of IEC 61439, IEC 60947, protection principles, and LV system design.
  • Experience reading and developing SLDs, control schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with PLC / relay logic, interlocking schemes, and control interfaces.
  • Knowledge of short-circuit calculations, cable sizing, and busbar design.
  • Experience working with OEM switchgear (e.g., Schneider, ABB, Siemens, LS, etc.) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and structured documentation habits.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
