Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Machine Learning Engineer based in Cairo, Egypt. The Machine Learning Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing machine learning models and algorithms. Key tasks include pattern recognition, working with neural networks, and applying statistical methods. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and performance improvements. Some work from home is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy advanced machine learning models with a focus on generative AI and OCR technologies.

  • Lead end-to-end ML solution lifecycle—from data collection, preprocessing, model training, evaluation, to production deployment.

  • Research and implement state-of-the-art algorithms in NLP, computer vision, and generative modeling.

  • Optimize model performance for speed, accuracy, and scalability, leveraging cloud-based ML solutions when appropriate.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (data engineering, product, and design) to integrate AI-driven functionality into products.

  • Mentor junior engineers and guide team members in best practices for ML research and development.

  • Diagnose and solve complex technical challenges, ensuring robust system performance and reliability.

  • Stay up to date with the latest research in AI, deep learning, and OCR for continuous innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field; PhD preferred.

  • 4+ years of professional experience in machine learning, with expertise in generative AI models (LLMs, diffusion models, GANs).

  • Strong proficiency in OCR technologies, including deep learning-based text detection and recognition.

  • Solid programming experience in Python and ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face Transformers.

  • Extensive background in NLP, computer vision, and large-scale data processing pipelines.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex and ambiguous problems with creative and scalable solutions.

  • Strong communication skills and leadership ability to guide projects and teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience fine-tuning and optimizing large language models for domain-specific applications.

  • Proficiency with OCR libraries and tools such as Tesseract, EasyOCR, or PaddleOCR.

  • Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).

  • Knowledge of computer vision techniques for document analysis and layout understanding.

  • Understanding of prompt engineering, model evaluation strategies, and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF).

  • Strong scientific curiosity with the ability to translate research insights into practical implementations.

  • Experience with cloud ML environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and ML Ops tools for deployment and monitoring.
