Electrical Design

Job Purpose:

responsible for designing, implementing, and managing electrical systems for water and wastewater projects. This includes the design of electrical distribution systems, control systems, and power supply systems that support wet utility infrastructure projects such as water treatment plants, pumping stations, and related facilities. The Electrical Design Engineer will collaborate with project teams to ensure efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions are delivered.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Design electrical systems for water and wastewater infrastructure projects, including pumping stations, water treatment facilities, and pipelines.
• Ensure that electrical distribution systems, control panels, lighting, and power supply systems meet all project specifications, safety requirements, and performance criteria.
• Develop and manage the electrical design scope, budget, and schedule for each project.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met and designs are integrated seamlessly.
• Prepare detailed electrical design drawings, including single-line diagrams, control system layouts, wiring diagrams, and electrical load calculations.
• Ensure all designs are properly documented and maintained for future reference or updates.
• Develop technical specifications for electrical equipment and materials, ensuring compatibility with wet utility projects.
• Specify equipment such as generators, transformers, switchgear, and pumps in line with the project's requirements.
• Ensure designs comply with local electrical codes, safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and industry standards.
• Keep up to date with evolving regulations and ensure the design process incorporates the latest best practices and innovations.
• Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, identify potential design issues, and verify that installations are proceeding as per the design.
• Perform inspections of electrical systems and installations during and after construction to ensure compliance with specifications and resolve any technical issues.
• Oversee the testing and commissioning of electrical systems, ensuring they meet the required performance criteria and function effectively.
• Ensure proper documentation of tests, results, and any troubleshooting procedures performed during system setup.
• Incorporate energy-efficient design principles and sustainability practices into electrical systems, contributing to the reduction of energy consumption and environmental impact.
• Propose innovative solutions for electrical systems that enhance performance and efficiency.

Person Specification

Minimum Education Level:

B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering

Background Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Essential

· Experience:

• 3-5 years of experience in electrical design engineering, with specific experience in wet utility projects (water, wastewater, or related infrastructure).
• Experience in electrical system design for pumping stations, water treatment plants, and related utilities is highly preferred.

· Skills:

• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or similar tools).
• In-depth knowledge of electrical design principles, power systems, and control systems.
• Strong understanding of local electrical codes, industry standards, and safety regulations.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
