Job Purpose

Independently design, review, and implement fire protection systems for complex oil & gas projects, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with international and local codes. Provide technical leadership in hydraulic calculations, risk assessments, and system integration. This role combines deep technical expertise with responsibility for project coordination, hazard mitigation, compliance with NFPA codes, and mentoring junior engineers, contributing directly to facility safety and operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design fire suppression and detection systems (e.g., water sprinklers, foam systems, smoke/heat detectors) in accordance with NFPA, OSHA, and local authority codes.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and fire system sizing, ensuring proper pressure and flow in all installed systems.
  • Review contractor fire safety plans, technical submittals, and ensure compliance with specifications and applicable regulations.
  • Manage procurement, oversee installation, and supervise commissioning of fire protection systems.
  • Conduct fire hazard assessments (FHA), analyse risks, and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
  • Lead or support fire incident investigations, develop root cause reports, and implement corrective measures.
  • Participate in and help organize emergency drills, simulations, and fire safety audits.
  • Support the development of fire safety programs, documentation, and training materials.
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies and standards in fire protection and share best practices with the internal team.
  • Research and apply emerging fire protection technologies and best practices.
  • Mentor junior fire engineers and ensure technical deliverables are met on time and within scope.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4–6 years of experience in fire protection engineering within oil & gas or industrial construction projects
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA and other relevant codes
  • Proficient in hydraulic calculation tools and fire protection system design
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and inspection protocols
  • Effective coordination and communication skills
  • Skilled in AutoCAD Plant 3D, Autodesk ReCap, and laser scan data for piping design.
