Job Purpose:

The Liner Accountant is responsible for performing all accounting activities related to liner operations, including recording vessel voyages, port calls, disbursement accounts (DA), freight revenues, and container-related costs. The role ensures accuracy of financial records, timely reporting, and compliance with company policies and maritime industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Revenue Accounting

  2. Record and reconcile freight revenue, demurrage, detention, and all liner-related revenues.

  3. Review freight invoices and validate applied tariffs.
  4. Follow up on outstanding receivables with customers and agents.
  5. Reconcile revenues with booking systems and port operation data.

  6. Cost Accounting

  7. Review and approve Disbursement Accounts (DA) received from shipping agents.

  8. Record voyage-related costs such as port charges, handling, stevedoring, and bunker costs.
  9. Track container movement costs (transportation, repair, storage, etc.).
  10. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.

  11. Voyage Accounting

  12. Prepare voyage profit & loss (P&L) reports for each vessel call.

  13. Compare estimated vs. actual voyage costs and explain variances.
  14. Monitor accruals and adjust them based on actual invoices.

  15. Reconciliation & Reporting

  16. Perform monthly reconciliations for liner accounts, receivables, and payables.

  17. Prepare financial reports and liner performance analytics.
  18. Support month-end and year-end closing activities.

  19. Documentation & Compliance

  20. Ensure compliance with internal policies and international accounting standards.

  21. Maintain accurate documentation for audits.
  22. Coordinate with operations, sales, and agents to verify financial data.

  23. Communication & Coordination

  24. Work closely with operations, logistics, and sales teams to verify voyage data.

  25. Communicate with local and overseas agents to resolve financial queries.
  26. Provide financial insights to support management decision-making.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Experience (Mandatory):
  • 1–3 years of mandatory experience in:

  • Maritime shipping

  • Liner operations
  • Logistics industry

  • Strong knowledge of port operations and liner activities is a mandatory requirement.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles.
  • Excellent MS Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills (English required).
