Job Summary :

The Mechanical Procurement Section Head is responsible for overseeing and managing all procurement activities related to mechanical materials, systems, and equipment required for construction projects. The role ensures the timely sourcing of high-quality materials at competitive prices while maintaining compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, and company policies. The position leads the mechanical procurement team, manages supplier relations, evaluates vendor performance, and ensures effective coordination with project, engineering, cost control, and logistics departments to support successful project delivery.

Job Description :

  • Lead and supervise the mechanical procurement team to ensure efficient execution of procurement plans for construction projects.
  • Review mechanical project requirements, specifications, BOQs, and shop drawings to identify material needs and procurement priorities.
  • Prepare and issue RFQs, manage bid evaluations, and conduct technical and commercial comparisons.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors on pricing, delivery schedules, warranties, commercial terms, and contracts.
  • Source and qualify local and international suppliers and maintain an updated database of approved vendors.
  • Ensure that procured items meet project technical specifications, quality standards, and engineering requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Engineering, Projects, Planning, and Cost Control teams to align procurement schedules with project timelines.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing changes, product innovations, and new vendor opportunities to enhance sourcing strategies.
  • Finalize and issue purchase orders in line with budget, approval matrix, and procurement procedures.
  • Track and expedite deliveries, addressing any delays, supply risks, or vendor non-compliance.
  • Manage supplier performance evaluations and recommend corrective actions where required.
  • Prepare periodic reports covering procurement progress, savings, vendor performance, risks, and market updates for management review.
  • Ensure strict adherence to procurement policies, contractual regulations, and documentation standards.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, value engineering, and process improvements within the procurement function.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Additional certification in Supply Chain, Procurement Management, or related fields (e.g., CIPS, PMP) is a plus.
  • 8–12 years of experience in procurement within the construction or contracting sector.
  • Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or section head position.
  • Proven experience in procuring mechanical systems and materials including:
  • HVAC systems (ducting, chillers, AHUs, FCUs)
  • Firefighting systems (pumps, valves, sprinklers)
  • Plumbing and drainage systems (piping, fittings, fixtures)
  • Mechanical equipment and consumables
  • Strong understanding of construction project cycles and MEP procurement requirements.
  • Excellent negotiation, commercial management, and vendor evaluation skills.
  • Strong supplier network in the construction and MEP market (local and international).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and BOQs.
  • Strong leadership, team development, and performance management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, cost control, and market research capabilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics, etc.).
