**Employed by**:NCBIS to support the vision, positive ethos and policies of the school
**Responsible to**: Head of Learning Support & EAL
**Qualifications**:Degree and CELTA/DELTA or Cert TESOL or equivalent***
**Experience**:minimum 3 years teaching English as an additional language_ _
**KEY DUTIES OF THE ROLE:
**SAFEGUARDING DUTIES**
- To be fully aware of and understand the duties and responsibilities arising from the
Children's Act 2004 in relation to child protection and safeguarding children and young
people as this applies to the teacher's role within the school.
- To ensure that the designated member of staff for child protection is made aware and kept
fully informed of any concerns which the post holder may have in relation to safeguarding
and/or child protection.
**TEACHING DUTIES**
**A. SUPPORTING STUDENTS**
- To work with students across year groups to develop their English language skills in order to
access the mainstream curriculum alongside their peers.***
- To establish a supportive relationship with the student concerned.***
- To encourage acceptance and inclusion of the student with additional needs.***
- To plan and prepare courses, schemes of work and individual lessons appropriate to the
needs of the pupil***
- To mark and assess pupils work, providing regular feedback to pupils***
- To develop knowledge of a range of ways in which to support students. For example:
- Clarifying and explaining instructions
- Ensuring the student is able to use equipment and materials provided
- Developing appropriate resources to support the student
- Provide assistance with access arrangements in examinations
**B. WORKING COLLABORATIVELY WITH CLASSROOM/SUBJECT TEACHER/HEAD OF LEARNING**
**SUPPORT**
- To plan, record and review relevant learning activities to help meet students’ needs and
individual targets, in line with departmental planning requirements

- To make recommendations regarding the curriculum for the student
Learning Support and contribute to review meetings of a student’s progress
- To contribute to the report writing and target setting process
- If appropriate, to work with other students to provide all students the experience of working

**C. SUPPORTING THE SCHOOL**
- To be aware of school policies and procedures and contribute positively to the ethos of the
school
- To have a knowledge and understanding of the whole school curriculum in order to
effectively support and guide students with individual needs
- To maintain relationships with families, as appropriate, which allows for a supportive home
- school link
- To be sensitive to and aware of confidential issues linked to home/student/teacher/school
work and to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
- To attend relevant staff meetings, INSET training and school-related activities, as deemed
appropriate by the Head of Learning Support in consultation with the relevant head of
school.
- To contribute to the professional development of others in areas of interest and expertise.
