Pipefitter Lead

Amentum is actively seeking a Pipefitter Lead for International Fleet Support under the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) PMS 326 Follow-On Technical Support (FOTS) contract. **The work location will be at the Egyptian Naval Base in the port of Alexandria, Egypt. **This position includes a competitive benefits package.
**Essential responsibilities and daily duties include**:
- Lead the installation, repair, and maintenance of piping systems aboard naval surface ships, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and standards.
- Supervise pipefitting teams, delegating tasks, conducting quality checks, and training junior staff in proper installation techniques and safety procedures.
- Perform inspections and tests (hydrostatic, pneumatic) to ensure the integrity and performance of all piping systems, identifying and repairing any faults.
- Work with project managers and engineers to plan pipefitting work, including materials procurement, manpower allocation, and scheduling to meet project deadlines.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and that proper lockout/tagout procedures, confined space entry protocols, and welding safety standards are followed.
- Provide detailed and technically accurate written condition and open and inspection reports. Use technical publications to identify and order required repair parts.
- Participate as a member of the Amentum Ship Repair Team (SRT) in close coordination with the Industrial Manager.
- Provide timely and comprehensive inputs for the Monthly Status Report.
**Minimum Requirements**
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 5 years of experience as a pipefitter, with a strong background in naval shipboard systems.
- Completion of a formal pipefitting apprenticeship program or vocational training in welding, plumbing, or pipefitting.
- Proven leadership experience as a supervisor or lead pipefitter managing teams of pipefitters and welders in shipyards, aboard naval vessels, or in industrial settings.
- Working experience with high-pressure piping systems, fuel systems, water systems, and hydraulic lines aboard naval ships.
- Working knowledge of environmental regulations related to wastewater systems, ballast water treatment, and fuel transfer aboard ships.
- Working experience with rigging and hoisting techniques for positioning and installing large pipe sections or assemblies in confined shipboard environments.
- Working experience in hydrostatic testing, pneumatic testing, and leak detection methods to verify the integrity of newly installed or repaired piping systems.
- Ability to use inspection tools such as pressure gauges, borescopes, and ultrasonic testing equipment to assess pipe condition.
- Working expertise in welding and brazing techniques for pipefitting, particularly TIG, MIG, and stick welding as applied to naval and marine piping systems.
- Proficiency in cutting, threading, bending, and assembling various types of pipe materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, and PVC.
- Ability to install piping systems with precision, ensuring proper fit, alignment, and support in accordance with NAVSEA and other relevant marine standards.
- Proficiency with hand tools, precision measurement tools, and equipment to perform repairs and have a thorough knowledge of standard shipyard practices.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret vessel blueprints and ship drawings in addition to research ships’ systems manuals to identify problems as they arise.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to obtain a Country Clearance and Base Pass authorization.
- Ability to possess a current passport at least two years before expiration after arrival in Egypt.
- Ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS.
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Prior ship maintenance experience or working knowledge of expectations and safety protocols related to a shipyard environment.
- Experience working in an Arab country for long periods.
